Wood in Richmond Park
Slender trunks and crossing branches fill Spencer Frederick Gore’s woodland painting. Pink, green and warm yellow patches break up the forest floor, crossed by blue shadows, while the trees open toward a pale clearing in the distance.
- Changes in trunk color and the broad bands of light and shadow give different parts of the woodland their own character.
- Similar upright trunks and branching shapes recur across much of the image.
